The last few months have seen J Allan Studios taking over blog writing responsibilities for Hiscox USA’s small business blog. We will be blogging about general business topics – technology, productivity, staffing – as well as diving into the business insurance topics business owners need to know about. We’ve also been exploring affiliations – both lose and formal – whereby our web and marketing planning expertise will be utilized by our partners’ clients.
The first two months of 2013 have been a combination of wrapping up projects in-process and taking on new clients; thanks to our solid SEO work people from all over Tampa Bay find us online and want to discuss their website and marketing needs. Clients in this group include Bingo Visual Aids, Infinite Purchasing Solutions, Hiller Carbon, The Vann Team, and eTelligent Solutions. Infinite, Vann and eTelligent are still under wraps, to be launched soon.
We’ve taken on a pro bono client, Tampa Repertory Theatre. With a new website and ongoing marketing work we’re happy to help this fledgling-yet-powerful performance group with their online presence.
J Allan Studios is becoming the experts in website redesigns, quick and simple. Kevin Webb of Taco Totes came to us on a Thursday needing his site improved for a sales meeting in California the following Wednesday. By Saturday we had the site 50% done, and by Tuesday the site was cleaner, more professional, and ready for prime time – with some free expert copywriting thrown in for good measure!

J Allan Studios celebrated it’ 7th birthday this month! No seven year itch here. We’re still very much dedicated to bringing affordable, effective writing, graphic design, and website development services to the Tampa Bay area!
January 2012: We kicked 2012 off with a bang! We debuted our new branding, including new logo; redeveloped our website in WordPress; and Mandy contributed to the Hiscox Small Business Blog with the piece “The first three steps to small business branding.”
Career services are in high demand at J Allan Studios, and this demand was bolstered by local radio DJ Corey Dylan interviewing Mandy for her blog. Let’s see let’s see, what has the team at J Allan Studios been up to? For starters, a marketing plan for RIS Radiology, and now we’re working on their new website. We wrapped up a whitepaper for Mobilozophy called “Getting Started with Mobile,” and drafted the new phone system messaging for Spiderhost (their third phone system and our third time doing this for them, so they must like us!). We also wrapped the new website for Quality Wall Beds (to be launched soon), and are getting ready to dive into the newsletter content for Ovations Food Services. All in all, a productive month!
This month we revised the free weekly webinar trainings for our content management system (CMS) website clients, originally launched in October of 2009. Clients can still take advantage of these free training sessions, which are fun, informative webinars, to help them get the most of their CMS websites. The trainings will still happen every Friday and be lead by Justin during one-hour sessions to answer CMS questions and help clients update their websites. The difference is that these free trainings will now be offered to clients who host their websites with us; client with CMS sites hosted by other providers will be able to access the trainings at out hourly rate. Of course, the free trainings offered to clients prior to March 2011 will be honored, regardless of where their websites are hosted.
To start 2011, we expanded our web hosting services to include a new user interface that makes it easier for clients to manage their accounts and discover new services that will help them grow their businesses.

Mandy designed the layout of a cookbook for a Westminster Day School fundraiser. The cookbooks were sold to raise money to help pay for the medical bills Finn Gunderson’s family has as they treat Finn for Diamond Blackfan Anemia. Justin used his hand-made bike desk and bike trainer to get his miles in despite the rain and cold while creating the PeerViews website, delivering the weekly Ready for Life newsletters, and keeping the Mazzaro’s website updated with all their holiday goodies.
Wrapping up resumes, working on complex web platforms, and pursuing their hobbies of competitive cycling and horses gave the staff of J Allan Studios much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving month.
This month the staff at J Allan Studios got inspired by Tony Hsieh, author of Delivering Happiness and CEO of Zappos.com, at an AMA Tampa event, wrote four executive resumes, created a marketing plan for a growing real estate investment firm, and created the new brand image of USF St. Pete’s MBA program. Go J Allan, go!
Mandy Minor gave two social media presentations to Fidelity National Title offices – one in St. Petersburg and one in Tampa. Attended by about a dozen people each, Mandy gave the low-down on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, blogging, and publicity and how small to mid-sized offices can use each in marketing. Or not use each. Remember, the marketing you do depends on your target market!
Like last year, J Allan Studios went on holiday this month and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff was also busy with seven resumes, three marketing plans, and nine website development projects. And by “busy” we mean BUSY!
J Allan Studios won the account to brand and promote USF St. Petersburg’s College of Business’ new program, the MBA Online at USF St. Petersburg. Go Bulls!
Mandy Minor participated in the first Linchpin Day, going to the June 14th meetup at IdeaField Coworking in Tampa. Thirteen shippers came to discuss leadership and put together a contribution to Linchpin Magazine. It was productive, fun, and inspiring, and will happen again so look for one near you.
Mandy Minor presented “Utilizing PR to Affordably Build Your Business” for the second annual BOOM! Your Business Expo in Tampa. In the 45-minute presentation Mandy discussed the difference between publicity and public relations; why business owners should pursue publicity for their business; when they should issue a press release; common mistakes they can avoid so they don’t look like an amateur; and six press release rules to follow no matter what.
Justin Elza completed the Pinellas County mentoring training program. He will soon begin using this training to mentor foster kids transitioning into adulthood through Ready for Life.
February was very busy-in-a-good-way for J Allan Studios and staff. Justin Elza trained nearly every day for March’s Tour de Cure at Ft DeSoto. Mandy Minor began exploring a working relationship with the creative geniuses at Roundhouse Creative where they’ll use Mandy’s marketing prowess to offer their clients a 360-degree range of services. And the resume side of J Allan Studios took off when Justin implemented some new search engine optimization (SEO) techniques and a standoptimization (SEO) techniques and a stand-alone website.
Mandy Minor participated as a panelist in the Small Business Resource Network and Business Outreach Speaker Series’ (BOSS) seminar Utilizing PR and Advertising to Build Your Business. Mandy spoke to business owners and managers about why it’s important to pursue publicity, when to issue a press release, and publicity mistakes to avoid.
It was a busy end to 2009! This month J Allan Studios finished the redesign and enhanced e-commence system for Mazzaro’s Italian Market, St. Petersburg’s world-famous Italian deli, bakery, cheese shop, and wine cellar. Resident job search expert Mandy Minor was quoted by Theladders.com piece “Getting Your Cover Letter Noticed.” Mandy was also nominated for membership in the National Association of Professional Women, and J Allan Studios was selected for the 2009 Best of Business Award in the Commercial art and graphic design category by the Small Business Commerce Association Community. What a great end to a great year!
This month J Allan Studios finished up the St. Petersburg Waterfront Parks Centennial Celebration website, utilizing some cool new features that site visitors love.

J Allan Studios teams with Pinstripe Marketing, Studio@620, St. Petersburg Preservation, and the City of St. Pete to clean up the Crislip Arcade. Built in 1926, Crislip is one of two arcade-style buildings remaining from St. Pete’s “boom years” and has of late fallen into disrepair after being left empty for some time. J Allan Studios and Pinstripe have worked with the owner to obtain permission to lead a volunteer effort to clean up the storefronts; in exchange the owner will offer five-year, reduced-rate leases. Nice work team!
Last month Mandy Minor of J Allan Studios sat on the social media panel The Social Media Tools Your Business Needs Now to discuss blogging. The panel is produced by Lizardy Associates and Accell CPAs, and took place Wednesday May 13, 2009 at 8:00a at Chester H. Ferguson law Center.
Justin Elza of J Allan Studios participates in the MDA ALS Division’s Downtown St. Pete Lock-Up for Charity event. Participants were picked up in a towncar and taken to “jail” at the St. Petersburg Bayfront Hilton where they enjoyed “jail food” and chatted with other “inmates” for a couple of hours. So much better than real jail, and for a good cause.

And J Allan Studios partners with local non-profit Ready for Life to create their new web presence. Ready for Life helps prepare young adults who are aging out of the Florida foster care system. J Allan Studios is working closely with RFL’s foster youth and board, which includes former Turner Broadcasting VP Gerry Hogan and one-time St. Pete mayor David Fischer, to provide the new pro-bono site.

J Allan Studios hires its first intern, Celeste Thompson. Celeste, a student at the University of South Florida’s St. Petersburg campus graphic design program, will help J Allan Studios with graphic design projects.
