Like last year, J Allan Studios went on holiday this month and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff was also busy with seven resumes, three marketing plans, and nine website development projects. And by “busy” we mean BUSY!

Mandy Minor participated in the first Linchpin Day, going to the June 14th meetup at IdeaField Coworking in Tampa. Thirteen shippers came to discuss leadership and put together a contribution to Linchpin Magazine. It was productive, fun, and inspiring, and will happen again so look for one near you.

Mandy Minor presented “Utilizing PR to Affordably Build Your Business” for the second annual BOOM! Your Business Expo in Tampa. In the 45-minute presentation Mandy discussed the difference between publicity and public relations; why business owners should pursue publicity for their business; when they should issue a press release; common mistakes they can avoid so they don’t look like an amateur; and six press release rules to follow no matter what.

Justin Elza completed the Pinellas County mentoring training program. He will soon begin using this training to mentor foster kids transitioning into adulthood through Ready for Life.

February was very busy-in-a-good-way for J Allan Studios and staff. Justin Elza trained nearly every day for March’s Tour de Cure at Ft DeSoto. Mandy Minor began exploring a working relationship with the creative geniuses at Roundhouse Creative where they’ll use Mandy’s marketing prowess to offer their clients a 360-degree range of services. And the resume side of J Allan Studios took off when Justin implemented some new search engine optimization (SEO) techniques and a standoptimization (SEO) techniques and a stand-alone website.

Mandy Minor participated as a panelist in the Small Business Resource Network and Business Outreach Speaker Series’ (BOSS) seminar Utilizing PR and Advertising to Build Your Business. Mandy spoke to business owners and managers about why it’s important to pursue publicity, when to issue a press release, and publicity mistakes to avoid.

It was a busy end to 2009! This month J Allan Studios finished the redesign and enhanced e-commence system for Mazzaro’s Italian Market, St. Petersburg’s world-famous Italian deli, bakery, cheese shop, and wine cellar. Resident job search expert Mandy Minor was quoted by Theladders.com piece “Getting Your Cover Letter Noticed.” Mandy was also nominated for membership in the National Association of Professional Women, and J Allan Studios was selected for the 2009 Best of Business Award in the Commercial art and graphic design category by the Small Business Commerce Association Community. What a great end to a great year!

This month J Allan Studios finished up the St. Petersburg Waterfront Parks Centennial Celebration website, utilizing some cool new features that site visitors love.

J Allan Studios launches free weekly webinar trainings for content management system (CMS) website clients. Existing CMS clients can take advantage of these free training sessions, which will be fun, informative webinars every Friday. Justin will conduct a one-hour trainings each week to answer CMS questions and help clients update their websites.

J Allan Studios is busy creating the new brand identity for Business Link Marketing and completing internal marketing audits for Florida Trend Magazine and DevCom Sales. It’s amazing how much clarity and confidence a few hours of intense, directed thought about mission, target markets, and USP can produce!

J Allan Studios teams with Pinstripe Marketing, Studio@620, St. Petersburg Preservation, and the City of St. Pete to clean up the Crislip Arcade. Built in 1926, Crislip is one of two arcade-style buildings remaining from St. Pete’s “boom years” and has of late fallen into disrepair after being left empty for some time. J Allan Studios and Pinstripe have worked with the owner to obtain permission to lead a volunteer effort to clean up the storefronts; in exchange the owner will offer five-year, reduced-rate leases. Nice work team!

Justin Elza of J Allan Studios participates in the MDA ALS Division’s Downtown St. Pete Lock-Up for Charity event. Participants were picked up in a towncar and taken to “jail” at the St. Petersburg Bayfront Hilton where they enjoyed “jail food” and chatted with other “inmates” for a couple of hours. So much better than real jail, and for a good cause.

And J Allan Studios partners with local non-profit Ready for Life to create their new web presence. Ready for Life helps prepare young adults who are aging out of the Florida foster care system. J Allan Studios is working closely with RFL’s foster youth and board, which includes former Turner Broadcasting VP Gerry Hogan and one-time St. Pete mayor David Fischer, to provide the new pro-bono site.

J Allan Studios hires its first intern, Celeste Thompson. Celeste, a student at the University of South Florida’s St. Petersburg campus graphic design program, will help J Allan Studios with graphic design projects.

And J Allan Studios is in the Tampa Bay Business Journal for the Crappiest Website Contest they ran in conjunction with their client Spiderhost.

Mandy joined the Pinstripe Marketing "Paws for a Cause" team at the SPCA's 2008 Pet Walk in North Shore Park, St. Pete. Both Mandy and her dog Radio had a great time. Check out the picture - Mandy is second from the right and Radio is the handsome black and white pup in front of her.
